I started seeing an Hematologist/Oncologist and this old phrase came to mind.
There But For The Grace Of God Go I

When I was young, I was full of zest
No matter what, I always did my best,
Older people? I wondered how they survived,
There but for the Grace of God, go I

As I matured, I was still quite fit,
I’d charge into things, I thought I was it
Even then, I saw those older, I just sighed,
There but for the Grace of God, go I

Then I turned fifty, I had slowed a little bit,
Yet still I gave my best, no longer quite as fit.
Many who were older, could not walk or fly,
There but for the Grace of God, go I

Now I am much older, yet still I hold the door,
For those less fortunate, they need so much more,
Sitting in powered scooters, barely managing to get by
Yet still….

There but for the Grace Of God, Go I
