Ki – Thoughts on Alone

 

Alone is not Lonely

 
 
 

Many individuals believe that ‘man’ is a social animal, and while that may be true
in the sense that they can typically accomplish more when they work together
than when they attempt to ‘go-it-alone’, I think it important to recognize
that an appreciable amount of investigation and discovery within our species
has come about through thought and analysis, and this is invariably a solitary action.

When we focus on what ‘we’ believe is required to address our challenges,
we must first determine the problem, and inevitably some plan of action
that may actually result in a resolution of our issues.

There is a time and a place for collaboration and teamwork, but the ability
to cooperate with others demands a comprehensive understanding of the objectives
as well as legitimate answers to the challenges inherent in the undertaking.
I am only making the point that solitude, deep contemplation, and an
analytical perspective bring clarity, and often can ‘only’ be realized
in an environment of calm that allows us to focus
on whatever issue is before us.

There is an intimate and distinct dichotomy between ‘being’ alone
as opposed to ‘feeling’ loneliness. It is for each of us to determine
the differences, the challenges, and the value of these things
if we ever expect to understand the environment we live in, the people around us,
and ultimately, the essence of the ‘self’ we hold deep within.

but being lonely is not being alone

it is a state of mind
an affliction of the heart
a soul lost in time

to be alone in a crowd
to live a thousand lives
(without love)
and yet die a thousand deaths
that is what it means to be lonely

the thoughts never cease

for there you will find self
and peace

rather, search it out and embrace it
for it is a shortcut in life
to enlightenment and comprehension

time to fall in love
in love with yourself
so in time you will understand
what it means to love

it is possible to hide from the uncomfortable
and the irrelevant
you can attempt to hide from reality
but there is no hiding from truth
and self

therein lies madness
