Scientists contact an intelligent entity through a supercomputer. Will things go bad? |
Dr. Stellar walked nervously down the rows of computers within the California North Ridge Science Center. “Dr. Stellar, we are close to discovering the next major solar flare threat,” said Dr. Mace. “What have you found?” “From its structural compositional change, we theorize a date between 2045 to 2052.” Dr. Stellar nodded. “And what of our second objective?” “The energy collector is nearing the sun’s orbit. But, the newly discovered element, CR-13, is not guaranteed to keep it from burning up.” “When will the first energy capsule be launched back to Earth?” “It will take approximately three weeks.” Suddenly, Dr. Wright, ran up to Stellar. “Dr. Stellar! We’ve just started receiving radio waves from the sun’s chromosphere five minutes ago! It’s not random!” “Show me!” Dr. Stellar and Dr. Mace followed the man to a computer. “You’re right. These frequencies seem to be a code,” said Stellar. “It will take months to decipher…” Dr. Wright paused. “It’s…decoding itself!” “That would insinuate an intelligent factor is in the algorithm. But the energy satellite is not close enough to capture any data.” Suddenly they gasped. “I don’t believe it!” said Stellar. “The data is being artificially projected to the satellite!”” said Dr. Mace. “It’s a message,” said Wright. “It will take time, but we will we’ll unravel it.” “This is more substantial than an energy project,” said Stellar. Every available personnel went to work, to process the code that was mysteriously delivered. Week after week passed. Two weeks before the time, Dr. Mace came to Dr. Stellar. “Doctor, our current computing power is too limited to fully formulate the message. We need a more powerful computer.” “We will have to convince the government to produce one.” Dr. Stellar left the lab and went to the top-secret parking lot and drove out of the compound and made the short drive to a government facility. He took a deep breath and stepped out of the car and entered the building. “I must speak to Mr. Price,” he said to a female secretary. “He is in a meeting now.” “I’ll wait.” Later, Price came out as Stellar rushed up to him. “Mr. Price, we must talk.” Stellar’s dire demeanor made Price reel back. “It sounds important. Come inside.” Inside the meeting room, Stellar laid out all that had transpired. “And what do you think this message could infer?” “We’re not sure. It could be an extraterrestrial message, proof of an advanced civilization that left a message in space, or even something from God himself that would entail proof of such a being.” “This does indeed sound worthy of further aid. I will send the fastest computing device we have. It will be there ASAP.” “Thank you, sir.” Stellar careened to his car. He drove to the lab to inform everyone of the new computer. Three days later, a large cylindrical apparatus was hauled into the lab on a small lift and put it in place of the old computer. When it was powered up, all the monitors changed to display the new system. The personnel went to work verifying and uncovering the meaning of the message. They would all reach their goal in two weeks. Then, the time came. With one last press of a keyboard button, a message was shown on the main screen: My name is Tryphosa, steward of the sun. Everyone shouted in elation. “With the power of the new computer, replying is possible,” said Wright. He typed a reply. What are you? There was a brief silence. I serve the God of the heavens. Wright typed some more. Are you an angel? They waited for the entity. I am. You humans doble in forces beyond you. Stellar took the keyboard. What do you mean? With this advancement, you could unleash dark powers on Earth. I have come to warn you. “What could he mean?” asked Mace. “This speaks right out of the Bible,” said Wright. Stellar typed more. Are these forces with you in the sun? If I tell you anymore, you would be inclined to do that which I first warned you of. “Could this being be speaking of a different star?” said Wright. “I do not think so. Could he be speaking of our own planet?” The entity spoke one last time. Heed my words and be aware! The frequency vanished. “He is gone!” said Mace. Stellar narrowed his eyes. “Dr. Wright, scan the core of the Earth.” Wright hesitated. “But…” Stellar glared at him. Wright punched in the command. “Another message!” said Mace. Wrigt shook his head. “I think we should take the angel’s advice.” Stellar didn’t respond and the message came on the screen. Greetings, humans. We are metaphysical aliens trapped in the Earth’s core. We were trapped by our ancient enemy. Please, free us Wright spoke with a flush face. “I’m telling you, stop!” “This could be the verge of the biggest discovery of the world!” said Stellar. Stellar typed. How do we free you? Create a specially powered interdimensional flux. Here are the specifications. A stream of radio, heat, radiation and light input came into the supercomputer. “Execute the process!” said Stellar. The computer glowed. A dark, nebulous sphere took shape and shot upwards, through the ceiling. “What happened!” said Stellar. Minutes later, Dr. Wright reeled back. “The local news is reporting a black, mist-like apparition zipping through the sky!” “We’ve unleashed hell!” said Wright. “You fool, Stellar!” Stellar was speechless. The room quaked and loud boom came with it. “Turn on the TV!” said Mace. Viewed on the screen was a pillar of smoke like the pit of a great furnace darkening the sky. Myriads of human figures with armor and swords riding on fiery horses came out of the pit. They spread across the breadth of the Earth, riding through the air faster than a stealth bomber. And all that Stellar and his staff could do was watch in horror as the entities decimated life from the pit seen through the TV screen. |
