Tribute to a dear friend who passed away 6-10-02
Tommy Me Boy Has Gone Away

Tommy me boy has gone away.
On God's course his golf now he'll play.
At the end of the round not a Guiness,
But a stout so pure it is the Lord's kiss.

The lilting sounds of his songs and playing.
Entertain angels where he's now staying.
There's a new player in heaven to join the band,
Whether it be a guitar or banjo in his hand.

The Irish ballads, the drinking songs too,
or shall it be bluegrass he plays for you.
He plays them all, joyous hymns or funny tunes.
In church, a pub or just sitting in the dunes.

I remember once at the Hotel Fountainbleau
in its lobby bar where most patrons were Jews,
He regaled them with songs of Ireland.
They kept buying drinks for our impromptu band.

Ahh Tommy ye're gone but never forgotten.
We'll join you some day in God's heaven.
Or perhaps Satan will host us, but I think not.
A friend of yours God would have to give a shot.

I cry for you or is it for me?
I have known you twenty five years, you see.
It's hard ye see to not have you here.
I'll miss Wednesdy's golf, burger and beer.

Your beautiful bride has been such a saint.
She stood at the bedside when others might faint.
They said a week, but she knew better.
He won't give up, my Tommy's a fighter.

For eighteen months, you fought the fight.
You wanted to live and make things right.
To let God, your friends and especially Cece,
know all was OK and how things would be.

It might be a cliche but it is true.
That there comes a time to let go and you knew.
You wanted to see that glorious light,
And not wear us out from your fight.

You've soared in life and now in death.
The Father will bless the songs from your breath.
We lift our glass and begin to pray.
Tommy me boy has gone away
Tommy me boy has gone away.
