Written for the one I love. Compares life with nature. |
My life has been like a river, At times it bubbled along, contented by streams of warm sunshine. Still other times the river tumbled over obstacles that poured out with angry force. It was when I was lost in the turbulence that I met you. My waters were muddy and confused. I wasn’t sure where the river was taking me. Then, my soul lit up like the sun beating down on a giant field of sunflowers. Though it was the first time I saw you, I knew I’d found the lost part of my soul for which I’d searched endlessly. When I gazed into your eyes I felt a stillness inside me, and I knew I wanted those same soft lips to kiss me. When you carried the groceries to your place, I knew I wanted those arms wrapped around me when the darkness came and the winds blew cold. When I heard your clear voice I knew it was the one I wanted to hear whispering in those intimate tones that can only be heard when the one you love whispers, “ I love you” in your ear. You were the swaying but gentle tree that hung over my bubbling waters. When the wind blew your branches spoke to me of lazy days where I learned to be comfortable with who I was and who I have become. As time passed we continued to meet in your quiet shadows. Despite some long and bitter winters we always found a way to look ahead to the sparkle and freshness of Spring. Isn’t it comforting to know that your arms will always be around me and your blossoms will always fall gently upon my still and quiet waters |
