What the wounded will do ... written in acrostics form
Time stood still as
Harry opened up the
Envelope.

When will the pain subside?
Or would it last
Until he accepted the fact that
Nadia was leaving him for good?
Did he really think she’d change her mind?

On the counter lay a
Pen of blue.
End the pain, he thought.
Nadia asked for it,
Endlessly begging for a
Divorce.

Am I to give in?
Stand tall and face reality?

It wouldn’t always hurt this bad;
Time would heal his wounds.

Wounds so deep,
Even he wondered if the
Rifle in the hall closet would
End the suffering.

All at once.

But he wouldn’t
Let Nadia get the best of him.
At the window, he watched the
Children from next door play.
Kites flew with the wind.

How could he have that now?
Once she leaves, his dreams will
Leave, too. For now he felt
Emptiness.

Dating again.
Roaming the bars in search of
Another who would have him.
Why did they always leave?
In his heart, he knew the answer.
Nobody cared about him.
Good for nothing whores.

Many think they are superior to him.
Everybody thinks they are too good.

I am somebody.
Nadia will learn.
The pain is subsiding now.
On the counter, the pen waits.

Open up, Nadia, he says.
Blood drips as he
Laughs, shoving the papers
In her mouth. His
Veins boil.
In the morning, it’ll be
Over. He’ll sign the papers.
Nadia will be gone.
