NASA New Mission

         Joe Jackson, the new NASA administrator, was meeting with the President, who outlined three ambitious missions for the agency’s future. The first mission was to develop interstellar drives for starships capable of traveling five times the speed of light. Key to the drive would be the mineral vanadium. Although a rare earth element, vanadium is not exceedingly rare, and the US possesses a significant supply in the Eastern Oregon Desert near the ghost town of Wagontire, Oregon. This area would become a mining hub to extract vanadium for the new spaceships, which would be built and launched from a nearby new spaceport.
         The second mission aimed to establish lunar colonies, Martian colonies, and colonies on Jupiter's and Saturn's moons, following NASA's confirmation of life in Europa's and Io's oceans.
         The third mission was to develop colonies in the Alpha Centauri system and send an exploration team to the planet Sirius, where scientists had identified a civilization at a technological level comparable to Earth's.
         To achieve these goals, NASA would merge with other space agencies worldwide to form the New International Space Agency (ISA), headquartered in Eastern Oregon near the new mine and spaceport. The Head of the ISA would be a US citizen, supported by three deputies from Russia, China, and Japan, and an executive team comprising engineers and scientists from Arabia, Britain, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Indonesia, Korea, India, and Mexico.
         The colonies would be established within three years. The first colony on the Moon would accommodate 5,000 people initially. The second colony on Mars would also house 5,000 people to start. Colonies on the moons of Jupiter and Saturn were projected to open within ten years. The Alpha Centauri expedition would commence in 2040, and the Sirius expedition in 2050. ISA had already made contact with the Sirius Empire, agreeing to share interstellar drive technology upon the completion of a prototype within five years. The ISA would be jointly funded by participating countries, functioning as an independent international organization outside the UN framework.
         ISA would collaborate closely with private sector companies such as SpaceX and Boeing in developing interstellar spaceships and establishing colonies.
