My Journey to Indie Author

Behind the scenes of my journey from reader to indie mystery author.

If you’d told teenage me that one day I’d be writing novels, I’d have laughed.
Back then, I wasn’t much of a reader at all — my English grades were nothing to brag about (we’re talking Ds here!). Books felt like hard work rather than something to enjoy.

But somewhere along the way, that changed. I picked up a book that caught my imagination, then another, and another. Little by little, I discovered the thrill of getting lost in a story. And then something unexpected happened: I started to wonder if I could write one myself.

Fast forward a few years and here I am, the author of the Newman Adventure series — fast‑paced mysteries inspired by real historical events, like the stolen Irish Crown Jewels. I’m currently deep into book four, and every day the journey surprises me.

Being an indie author is exciting, but it’s also messy and unpredictable. There are moments of pure inspiration… and plenty of late‑night rewrites. There’s the joy of creating, but also the challenge of doing it all yourself — writing, editing, marketing, the lot.
