20230624 Writing. It Matters.

Trigger Warning!

It has been cold and wet and miserable here in the first month of an Australian winter.

So... how have I kept myself sane?

I haven't...

When I am not sleeping or trying to stay warm, I am writing. My YA book has hit 65k words, I've submitted 12 short stories, 2 novels and a book of poetry to various publishers (and completely expect 15 rejections over the course of the next 6 months), and my adult novel has hit 72 hand-written pages (whatever that is in words), done my normal 10 columns for Weekend Notes, and have written 2 quite awful short stories and a mediocre poem.

So, writing is, at the moment, quite literally my life-saver.

Say what you will about how bad my output is (and, I know, it's not great), without it, I don't know if I'd be here.

It's been a while since I last attempted (my last period of time away from WdC), and I have to keep on writing so I don't try again. I need to keep writing. It might be crap, I might not be having success, but I need to keep on doing it.

NEED.

Not want, but need.

Writing.

It matters.
