This Means War?
March 6, 2003

George W. Bush. What can I say?
Apparently nothing. Bush's drive for war seems to be unturnable. Not even Canada's wisdom can budge him.
Reminds me of how Iraq has no choice for their leader. We have no say in this war.
Why is that? Because the people who decide whether to go to war are too old to fight it. They're making the decision for kids just a couple years older than myself. It won't be long until I'm included as well.
Don't get me wrong, I'm more than willing to fight to protect my country and the people in it. What I'm not willing to fight for is SUV drivers and inefficient industry.
This war isn't about terror. If it was, we'd go for countries that actually harbor a threatening number of terrorists. The ones with a high concentration of them. Iraq may have Al Queda cells, but not many. For crap's sake, the US has Al Queda cells, possibly near or greater than the number in Iraq.
Indeed, Iraq's weapons of mass destruction aren't a threat to us either. Their highest-ranged weapons reach to Israel. And as long as UN inspectors are keeping Iraq on their toes, there's no way Iraq could slip a missle into commission. Eventually they'll have to comply. But until then, I seriously doubt they'll make any hostile moves against their neighboring countries.
This war is about oil. It's about ego. It's about rallying people into American nationalism. Don't get me wrong, patriotism is great. Loyalty is great. Nationalism, also called cheuvanism, is a problem. That's when people will back their country no matter how wrong it is. That was the driving force behind Hitler's Nazi movement. Also similar to the Nazis, the pro-war feeling in America is actually a very small minority.
I consider myself moderately Democratic. There are some Republican policies I support, and some Democratic views I would never stand for. Bush is someone I consider to be a man of God. I support some of his views. However, I just can't back this war. It's not founded on anything that merits pitting human beings against each other. The idea of Bush's war is absurd; it's a rally for savagery. The success in Afghanistan and America's support for that almost justified war (no war is fully justified) has only fueled Bush's idea that he can get away with taking out countries and calling it war on terrorism.
There are other things I'd outburst about, but I've got some stuff to do tonight before it gets too late.
Before I go, I'll mention that I saw a headline saying there were tax breaks for SUV drivers. While link was broken and I didn't have time before school to look into it, I'd just like to ask, if it's true, why? SUV drivers are half the reason we even have an oil crisis. Maybe it's just an indirect way to give a break to upper classes. After all, when's the last time you've seen a nice big SUV parked in a trailer park? I haven't, because if you live in a trailer park, you probably can't afford the SUV, the insurance, or the gas. If you can, then that's probably the reason you're in the trailer park in the first place.
Wow, haven't had an entry this long in a while. Care to express your views? Feel free to respond. Recommended listening: Civil War by the great Guns'n'Roses. Most appropriate. Goodnight.
