The Very Secret Diary of Circe

Buffy Rant!

Sigh. Do you remember a few years back there used to be a show on TV about a
strong female character who was smart, sassy, kicked serious demon ass but
still had time to hang with her bestest friends?

What happened to her?

Seriously, it's hard to believe I'm even watching Buffy any more. Not only is
every character a hollow shell of their former wonderful 3 dimensional selves,
but last night Buffy was running away and acting like the horror movie blonde.
I was totally waiting for the 'My ankle!' Isn't that the very thing Joss wanted
Buffy not to be? The stereotypical girly girl who can't handle herself? I mean,
she didn't even take a sword to fight the thing! Sheesh.

And the writing has gone way down hill. Have you noticed that we haven't really
had any new episodes for a long time? They just keep stealing earlier ones and
re-doing them ('Him' was just a complete redo of B,B&B) or making hour-long
recaps. (The one with Spike tied to the chair. "You were using me." Well duh! I
think we kinda covered this whole situation LAST SEASON! Do we need to say it
EVERY FREAKING EPISODE??? As 'Television without Pity' said- There were single
celled organisms who screamed 'She's using you!') It also doesn't have to
classic quotability of the earlier seasons.

Also- continuity, my old friend, where did you go? Why was Ubervamp trying to
DROWN Spike and, dear God help me, why was it ACTUALLY WORKING??

Also, First Evil? Sigh. Buffy's all "it's so horrifying and powerful and I've
never meet anything so eeeeeevvvvvvillll. I can feel it's ewwky horribleness!"

Uh huh, am I the only one who can remember the exchanges under the Christmas
tree lot?


"…Beyond fear, beyond death, I-"

"Okay, I get it, you're evil. Do we have to chat about it all day?"

"You have no idea what I am."

"Let me guess- is it…evil?"


Yep, Buffy seemed terrified. Excuse me? Mutant Enemy? Maybe you should get a
fan in to write some of the eps since they seem to remember who the characters
are better than you. Or maybe, I don't know, get Joss to write some!

These characters used to care about each other and now they just seem bored
when they're in the same room.

Sigh. I miss season 3...
