Indian Prune
another entry triple-header. title for this one comes courtesy of dave, who as it turns out is good for something, because i could not for the life of me come up with an i-fruit.

my fingers are wrinkled like indian prunes, because i just took a forty-five minute shower. it's six-thirty in the morning here, so no lines, and they just put up new shower curtains--aahhhh. plasticky smells, and bleachy smells, and soapy smells--the gray-blue smells of clean bathrooms--really do it for me. i could have stayed in there forever, but i started to fall asleep.

the idea behind the fruit entries, not that anyone asked, was that choosing fruits for entry titles would sort of focus my entries, serve as built-in writing prompts, to give me a starting point, at least. that hasn't actually worked that well; i'm still winding up with ramblesome entries that are as unfocused as they are varying.

that's okay. the greater benefit, as i just realized, looking through my entry list, is that the sight of all those fruit words together is almost like eating a spoonful of really good ambrosia. words like that, put together, because of their association, even if you just glance at them--ripe, round words like apple and cherry and damson plum--well, they almost taste like something delicious.

fig and prune, less so. grape, though. i could really go for some grapes.
