New Mix
originally compiled for marcus, to enclose in his lsat study care package, but it turned out to be the best study mix i'd ever made, ever, so i burned myself a copy, too.

disc one:

1. "lie in our graves" (live), dave matthews band
2. "firedance," riverdance ensemble
3. "the gods love nubia," aida ensemble
4. "one note samba," carl saunders
5. "afro blue," john coltrane
6. "superwoman (where were you when i needed you)," quincy jones
7. "hard time yearning," carole king
8. "two step" (live, the thirty-two minute version), dave matthews band

disc two:

9. "summer breeze," the isley brothers
10. "kiss from a rose," seal
11. "talk to me," jill scott
12. "one note samba," nancy wilson
13. "al otro lado del rio," jorge drexler
14. "it never entered my mind," miles davis
15. "cinema paradiso," regina carter
16. "out of my hands," dave matthews band
17. "bali run," fourplay
18. "electric relaxation," a tribe called quest
19. "you go to my head," louis armstrong
20. "naima," john coltrane
21. "gotta get up (another day)," jill scott

right around track thirteen, i lose my mind and totally stop paying attention to the goddamn lsat book.

during a giant lull in my life, earlier today, i wrote out the lyrics to "al otro lado del rio," which i generally consider one of the prettier songs that's ever been written. this is ear-based only, forgive me if some of it's wrong wrong wrong and missing accents (aaron, pardon my "monthly bills" moment):

"clavo mi remo en el agua,
llevo tu remo en el mio,
creo que he visto la luz
al otro lado del rio.

el dia le ira pudiendo
poco a poco al frio,
creo que he visto la luz
al otro lado del rio.

sobre todo creo que
no todo esta perdido.
tanga lagrima, tanta lagrima, y yo
soy un vaso vacio.

oigo una voz que me llama casi un suspiro.
rema, rema, rema...rema, rema, rema.

en esta orilla del mundo,
lo que no es presa es baldio.
creo que he visto la luz
al otro lado del rio.

yo muy serio voy remando
muy adentro sonrio,
creo que he visto la luz
al otro lado del rio..."

i then translated them using the rusted-over remnants of four years of high school spanish, and it translates, roughly, to:

"i dip my oar in the water,
i take your oar in mine,
i believe i have seen the light
on the other side of the river.

the day, it will be turning(?),
little by little, to cold,
i believe i have seen the light
on the other side of the river.

about all, i believe
all is not lost.
many [er, pain? weeping? tears?], many [whatever], and i
am an empty glass [so tears, then].

i hear a voice that calls me, almost a sigh.
row, row, row...row, row, row.

on this edge of the world,
that which is not imprisoned (eh) is [something].
i believe i have seen the light
on the other side of the river.

i very seriously will row (that can't be right)
very [somethingly] smiling.
i believe i have seen the light
on the other side of the river..."

you aren't reading anymore. i don't care. i'm having a near-meltdown over these logic puzzle questions, can i just quit? i hate studying, i never do it right, and anyway i won't be able to write a decent essay unless the prompt is "tell us why the guitar and the cello belong together," in which case i will reference this song, and write about that moment when synchrony splits into wet green harmony; i am going to fail this test.

marcus was supposed to call forty-two minutes ago to go over practice questions.

i am going to fail this test.
