Mommy, Daddy 12-06-05
I feel that a lot of parents don't look at their children on a daily basis. I mean really look at them. See their talents and their desires, encourage and uplift them, show them they care. I wrote this poem as a dabble and here it is, posted for all to see. I think the emotion comes across, albeit weakly, but I feel that every parent should read this poem.

Mommy, Daddy
by J.A.D.

Sitting in the silent room,
Haunted by the ghosts of the past,
Wondering if only once inside the tomb,
Appreciation would be hers at last.

Riding in the noisy trolley,
Shivering from inner doubt and fear,
Thinking about past sins and folly,
And hating the face he sees in the mirror.

Mommy, Daddy, please tell me,
That you love me so.
Mommy, Daddy, can’t you see,
I love you and need you so?

She doesn’t see her worth,
As her parents refuse to reveal,
How blessed they were by her birth,
Instead inflicting wounds that won’t heal.

He doesn’t understand the reason why,
He was placed upon this earth,
Surely it couldn’t be to only cry,
And to question his full worth.

Mommy, Daddy, please tell me,
That you love me so.
Mommy, Daddy, can’t you see,
I love you and need you so?

Darkness falls as it does every night,
She unheedingly lets the tears fall,
Her parents ignore her plight,
They can’t hear her pain-filled call.

He rocks as he remembers yesterdays,
Remembers the hugs that happened so much,
Remembers the words of love they used to say,
Remembers his parents loving touch.

Mommy, Daddy, please tell me,
That you love me so.
Mommy, Daddy, can’t you see,
I love you and need you so?

Her talent lays crushed and unbloomed within her,
Her life lays dark and dormant beneath their feet,
She can’t understand why life continues to plague her,
Why breath fills and leaves her, why her heart still beats.

He once believed that he was special and needed,
That no one could ever love him more than his parents,
That everything he said and thought was heeded,
But now the silence causes his heart to daily rent.

Mommy, Daddy, please tell me,
That you love me so.
Mommy, Daddy, can’t you see,
I love you and need you so?

Each day this happens and many turn away,
From the children and teens who need to know,
That they are special, needed and loved every day,
Like a tender plant, they need praise and light to grow.

So wrap your arms around your child each and every day,
Tell them you love them and show them you care,
Show them they are blessings, for they are, in every way,
For love is a wonderful gift but only beautiful if you share.

Mommy, Daddy, look at me,
I want you to see me again; I want to be whole.
Sweetie, child of mine, I see,
You are my blessing, my special light, my joy, and my soul.

And I love you more than you can ever know.
