Restroom poetry

There are no pictures here:
tiled walls, a wedgewood blue, blank, empty;
the stalls dull grey.
Vague smells define this spot
where no one lingers, gossips, chats.
Some read,
but no one speaks
and no one mingles.
Just one graffito:
"Tap 4 BJ"
indicates there's more to do
than piss-and-shit.
So why the rush?
I pen a poem,

pause,

then flush.

I've mentioned graffiti before. It is advisable as a writer to be aware of the small things we ignore everyday. I'm not OCD in the sense of reading EVERY thing in front of me; but, there are times ...

ME:

I heard the gas-man tap tap tapping on my door. Good thing. I paid the shut-off amount, then took a nice hot bath. My house mate is on his way back today, so this will all work out.

I have over 40 pairs of socks (must remind family: don't send socks!) ... need to buy underwear one of these days to replenish supply. Washed out 4 red shirts. 2 bleed, so they have to be done separately. Found shoes I forgot I had. Still need another pair.

From what my friend Steve said last night it seems I'll be able to find a 1 bedroom place (we might share) for less than $300/month close to the college and coffeehouse. Coffee! It would be close to his present job too. Hope we can find a 2 bedroom. It's easier to share a place that way, even though we are fairly compatible. I figure that if one of us moves, it'll be easier to find a replacement roommate. Although ... I think I'm hard to replace .

Hub mentioned a study last night that stated that Americans under 40 do not scan their surroundings. Hmmm. I scan a lot. Here in tornado country, it is foolish to not be aware of the weather. In certain social settings, it is foolish to not be "present"! The alleyways of inner cities and offices of CEOs prey on the unaware. Perhaps people living in gated communities with gated personal lives feel at ease as long as objectionable people (anyone who doesn't think or look like them), animals (like the 'big bad wolf') or weather (AC/central heat) can be controlled. Unfortunately for them ... that isn't how Real Life works.

Which brings up autism and what it is and how to interface with those who are.
