Love Counts - Not Colour
He was black
She was white
People called it
The "forbidden love"

They cared little
For public opinion
They cared more
For each other.

Threats flew
In his direction
Rumours of scandal
In hers.

They carried on
Their love growing stronger
People's opinions
They wanted to hear no longer.

Tension arose
When they walked down the streets
Hand in hand -
Hearts linked eternally.

All of a sudden
Out of the blue
Danger appeared
Followed by fright.

He fought for love
And failed
He was badly wounded
Beaten almost to death.

Her screams were piercing
But did little.
The fight continued
As she tried helplessly to save her lover.

A dagger pierced through her skin
And deep into her heart
She fell to the ground
Beside her lover's broken body.

The danger retreated
As flashing lights appeared - too late.
As they sealed their love
With one last kiss, their souls floated above.

Their love had been so strong.
Although they both died
Their souls remained together
For all eternity.

A message arose
From the traumatic scene
If love was all that mattered
Then why should colour add tension?
