murder most foul
Prompt: "How about a piece on Murder?"

I love the concept of murder, in the fictional sense.  I love the idea of writing a murder.  I've loved murder mysteries since I was a small child.  I love the British cozy, the idea that there is only a specific number of suspects, and usually an unusual method of murder.

I like a book I own that dissects the fiction of murder, famous detectives, poisons, perpetrators, private eyes and spies, etc.  It is called Murder Ink, The Mystery Reader's Companion.  It was written by the owner of a bookstore called... "Murder Ink"  It is a wonderful store on the upper west side of New York City.
I like the thought of murder, in an academic way.

My Sister, a district attorney in Atlanta has a way, way different different perspective on murder.  She works in the 'bad crimes against defenseless people' division in Atlanta.  I, on the other hand, live in a safer, more theoretical world.  Murder is a tv show, or a book.

The deaths that happen in my neighborhood are homicides and manslaughter, accidental shootings and drive bys.

Murder is a very specific and well thought out situation.  The perfect murder.  One you get away with, like Strangers on a Train, or Double Indemnity.

I think also that it is unbelievably careless of society, tv, fiction and what-have-you to portray murder as if it were a sport, or amusement.  I feel as if people who did actually live though a murder in their life, that affected their whole existence, that destroyed their lives, would not really care for such fiction.

It's a funny thing life.
