Victimless Crimes
12-26-08

My years are knots;
ends tying to beginnings of new clusters
of hope and truancy
meeting miracles and debacles.
I play every connection
from the perpetrator to the fallen,
and sometimes I can't help my hands
from getting tangled
in strings that pull my self-penned puppet show.
I watch for hours,
this senseless mine-on-mine crime,
unable to always find the answer to the riddles
being stamped into my brain
like fodder for my imagination
running looped
and I can't peel my eyes from
their seams in the splices.
It's right there:
plain as what you want not to see.
A child who shouldn't know better
will of course know better
but no one gets hurt
in the process.
And if nobody sees the stumbles
for the routines in the making,
I doubt the circles will be broken
while laws become roads
I knot myself up in, neverending.
