Milk Toast - - - Write poem using Strong Words
Milk Toast

I hate the vile stuff.
My Mom's favorite,
She thought it a treat.
My brother and I would cringe
at the cacophony of the words,
"I'll make you some milk toast."

Pasty white bread that stuck
to the roof of your mouth,
barely browned and slathered
with margarine that yesterday
we squeezed in the plastic bag
to make the red dot
turn the white grease yellow
to look like butter.

A stingy sprinkle of sugar
then torn into bite sized chunks,
the toast was smashed into a glass
to have warmed milk dumped on top.
It turned into soggy, bland Gluck
that disintegrated in your mouth
and left a greasy film
on your tongue.

Just the other night my brother and I
were laughing remembering
Mama and her Milk Toast.
