He Sleeps through the Night
inside the room, the panic of social abyss...
still, I watched in rapt incomprehension
the fateful scene without veto
when Jessica, the fourteen-year-old
in hand-me-down shorts and tee,
handed her baby over to Millie,
with a false smile and stuttered,
“he sleeps through the night.”
