The Wedding Day
MAY 18 ENTRY: Write a short story or poem from the point of view of a wedding bouquet.

Hope I ain't too late Brother Nature .. Brute of a prompt!

Inspiration: http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/231150/50-great-wedding-bouquets#231896

She didn't let the grumpy florist make me,
Stopping by herself,
Her soft hands, her fresh face, so young.
One by one she picked the flowers,
Honeysuckle,
Ranunculus,
Golden peonies
Poppies too,
And the most stunning garden roses.
"Are you the bride?" the florist asked her,
"No, I am just one of the bridesmaids..."

She took me to a white building,
Which was surrounded by an air of serenity.
So this is the place called church,
Where humans get married.
The bride was sitting in a separate room,
Looking spectacular, and so happy.
Her happiness increased manifold
On seeing me, my flowers in full bloom,
With tiny dew drops on some.
"This is amazing Jen! Thanks a lot," she said
Just as it was time to go to the chapel...

Everyone was standing,
But I had the best seat in the house.
The bride clutched at me hard,
She was nervous,
As an old man lead her down the aisle.
The groom was waiting for her at the front
In all his resplendent glory,
He took her hand
As the man in the white gown
Started to speak...

Some people were crying,
As the bride and groom said "I do"
And kissed.
For the first time in half an hour,
Her grip loosened around me
As petals fell like hail,
Covering one and all.
We started to walk out of the church,
Amidst the hugs of congratulations.
It was quite dangerous,
I nearly fell out of her hand, more than once!
When got to the decorated vehicle outside,
She remembered it was time,
Time to let go,
And then, for the love of God I don't know why,
Flung me into the air!
Why couldn't she just hand me to someone else?
Why terrify me so?
I swear I can't understand these humans and their rituals!

I landed in the hands of my maker, Jen,
Unscathed, but my apprehension went away,
When she smiled,
A smile of youthfulness, exuberant and pristine,
A smile I won't forget.
