| (4.5)| Rhythm Each stanza had good flow from one to the next. Overall impression You painted the picture of a relationship gone wrong, based on fear and not what she wanted or needed. The imagery of the abuse still lingers in my mind. Every action had a reaction, on a deeper scale from one incident to the next. The more he controlled, the more she turned inward. It is like a game of push of pull, tearing her down piece by piece until she can't take anymore. The dinner stanza had me wondering if she went with a poison, but no, that's not where this went. By the last stanza it was all too clear where they were headed. The line: "You come to shower your beastly love on me today." made me cringe, knowing that there is no gentleness in their intimacy, only him taking what he wants, triggering her to finally make it all stop by whatever means necessary. Everyone wants that deeper connection, to know that you are loved deep down to your soul, and when it falls short of that we seem lost, still searching, trying when we shouldn't, putting up with abuses that cause both physical and emotional scars.
