Letter from the editor

I always wondered why people always comment on my works as being "to the heart" or asking "Was that real?" I've been drawn to dramatic works since I was a young writer in middle school, when my father showed some of my poetry to a writer friend of his. The writer remarked that my pieces were "beyond my years in emotion and content". Now why would he say that?

After working in the children's department of a large bookstore, I found it helpful to read some of the different genres to help aquaint myself with the writing styles and therefore help the customer. The Young Adult area I found to be my favorite. The care that was taken with these stories, these character's lives, seemed to be written with special care. It was a special pleasure when I came across the stories that were actually written by the "young people" themselves.

Most teenagers write about what is in their hearts, the homes and their everyday lives. The turmoil found there would knock the socks off the sternest business executive. So why do adults always make a comment like that? Take a look at your fellow writers this week, can you really tell there age from their writing? The drama in their lives is just as real as the drama in mine, and I wouldn't go back there if you paid me!
