No, you haven’t accidentally opened the Comedy Newsletter; this is still the Contest and Activity Newsletter, so keep on reading. Writing.com has changed tremendously in the four plus years that I’ve been a member of its diverse community. In fact, just yesterday, I was confronted with my testimonial, dated October 13, 2002, in which I refer to WDC as Stories.com (its name back then). One thing that hasn’t changed is the people. Still a serious bunch of writers who are as crazy as ever! As proof, I offer you the following four In & Outs that will introduce you to WDC’s brand of humor (or humour if you’re in England):
Misfortune Cookies

The perfect end to a lousy dinner.
Robert Waltz  gives out 1000 GPs every twenty five or so posts to the entrant that makes him giggle like he did when he was a kid (yes, he can still remember back that far). Sharpen your culinary wit and come up with a couple of short lines to add and you could become the fortunate one. Just don’t eat the chicken.
Famous Last Words

spinsky gives out 3000 GPs for any Famous Last Words that can really make him laugh. So far he’s given away 78,000 GPs to those morbid souls who have come up with humorous departing words. What’s the zaniest thing you can come up to immortalize yourself?
Rolling One Liners

This one is rated 18+ and with good reason! It’s based on Jeff Foxworthy according to the introduction (though I cannot personally attest to that since I’m only familiar with Mr. Foxworthy’s you might be a redneck jokes) and it’s full of…well, 18+ rated humor, of course.
The Top Ten List

Based on David Letterman's nightly Top Ten List..You make the list!
Based upon the infamous talk show host’s list of the same name, this In & Out offers a bit of fun for anyone! Whether or not you wish to participate or just watch the antics unfold, the humor runs deep in here. Pop in, drop a number, a topic or an off-topic post, or just read through some of the previous posts for a pick-me-up during a boring day.
Have any of these In & Outs inspired you to create your own? Well, they can be a bit tricky. For the most part they are pretty straight forward, but when you get down to choosing #5. Item Type Specific Settings, you’ll want reference the following item that will walk you through the different types of display types: "The Ins and Outs of In & Outs" . Good luck and remember, if you’re not funny, hang around people who are, so that you appear to be so, too!

vivacious  says,” Loved this newsletter! Having created oodles of sigs myself, I'm careful to use clipart purchased from collections by Broderbund and Corel, or create my own. I've also done internet searches, but I haven't been diligent enough in checking copyright information. Thank you for the advice. I now no better what to look for and avoid.”
Lobelia is truly blessed says, “Wow! What a FANTASTIC newsletter article! It's nice to see the artist's work respected by copyright care, too! Just wondering- shouldn't there be a copyright requirement for all images posted here that are done by someone other than ourselves? Items are policed for rating accuracy- seems like lack of copyright info should get 'em blocked, too.”
Rating accuracy and copyright infringement are two different things. Ratings accuracy is a WDC standard and is checked against an internal guideline. Even all of those are not caught as it’s impossible to police the sheer volume of items with the number of staff, senior moderators and moderators available. Now imagine trying to check images against every artist known to mankind. An impossible task. WDC does have a copyright requirement; it is stated in the "Writing.Com Copyright Policy" , first paragraph. I hope this helps.  Ter
kelly1202 says, “Great Newsletter, Terry. You stated important facts that everyone should adhere to. It's extremely imperative that anyone working with images makes sure that they are indeed 'free' to use!”
Voxxylady says, “Excellent newsletter, Terry. This issue is too often ignored or neglected, and as an artist/photographer myself, I always wonder about Cnotes and Sigs when the creator doesn't mention where the images came from. They should all be marked, even if they are free-use images.
Just a note: A small change to an image does not lift the copyright. The law is that it has to be substantially changed and not be competition to the original artist. Even so, it can be touchy.”

I know I've been guilty of doing such things in the past, but I'm more careful these days, or if required by the artist, a link is placed on the image to their website.
