Shops and towns are decorated, Writing.Com looks very pretty, and many people are planning what to buy for others for the holidays. Indeed, quite a few people are looking forward to Christmas, whether or not the celebrations are part of their faith. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that for others the upcoming weeks can be a time of stress and anxiety.
With the dark hours lasting longer and the cold and gloomy weather many of us are exposed to, this is no surprise. Additionally, some people will be alone for the holidays. Watching the news doesn’t help much either – there is a distinct lack of happy stories on there.
If you are struggling this time of year, or know anyone on this site who is, there is some good news. Whether or not you celebrate Christmas, the site is full of fun activities you can take part in. Some are tied to Christmas, others aren’t. And there are some right good events to look forward to in the New Year, as well.
We can all do with a smile. Smiles are necessary for us to feel good and cope with the stress of daily life. Of course I encourage you to seek smiles offline, but it’s always helpful to smile as much as we can, and this community offers a lot of feel-good opportunities.
Take part in one of the many excellent writing contests. Exercising your writing skills, perhaps even learning new techniques, does wonders for a writer’s confidence. Check out the various activities. There are some really nice ones being held right now, offering you the opportunity to share and give, and maybe receive in return. The Season Tickets look to be the best ever, with some amazing prizes on offer. All proceeds go to RAOK, to help members with upgrades – a worthy cause indeed.
Whatever makes you smile, I am sure there is something on this site for you this month. Whether you’re into Christmas or not, this has to be one of the most inspiring times a year on Writing.Com.
I hope that as you have a look around at what’s on offer, life will feel that bit brighter. And if you are smiling, consider sharing your joy with someone else. It just might make you feel even better.
