Life Happens

I was all set up to write a newsletter on how and why I chose a contest, along with my experience entering the contest. I challenged my readers to enter a contest, and I wanted to join in.

And then life happened.

I decided to go back to school. It sounds rather sudden, but it's something I've been thinking about for quite some time. At my current job, I got an opportunity to take classes and get a license toward an actual career, something I've been dreaming about for years. Of course, I can't pass up the chance! But that meant less personal time.

It happens to us all! We have well-meaning intentions and then life interrupts us and our obligations. The important thing, I think, is to assess your priorities and come up with a solution. My education is obviously very important to me, so while I didn't quite finish my entry for the contest I chose (which is "Invalid Item ), I do plan on working on the entry before the contest's deadline.

What made me choose this contest? The title caught my eye. I enjoy reading Sci-Fi and Fantasy, and when I read the line "I'm a total sucker for a good science-fiction/fantasy tale." in the contest, I knew I found the one for me, because that's how I feel, too! For me, the prizes, prompts, etc., are all icing on the cake. If a contest intrigues me, I want to enter it. And I do plan on entering it!

For many of us, too, writing is a kind of stress-relief; it can be a nice break from the daily grind. I'm going to be working part-time and taking classes part-time, so luckily I'll still have some free time, and I'll be spending a good bit of it on my favorite website, of course!

A special thank you to everyone who entered my contest last month! Take a moment to check out their entries and the contests!

Ask & Answer

My last newsletter, ("Contests & Activities Newsletter (April 18, 2012)), discussed not being afraid to enter a contest or try something new on WDC.

Some great advice here! I've been at wars with a close friend of mine because we both refuse to watch each other's favourite show! We're both so rooted in our own self-assuredness and pre-conceived notions from the outset, that we simply refuse to give them a little time, despite each other's endorsements! I think I will break out of my stubbornness this week!

I would also be very grateful if you might consider including my new contest in your next issue. It would be lovely to see a few more entries before the round closes! *Bigsmile*

Done and thanks!! *Smile*

I have recently come back to writing.com and have started entering as many contests as I can manage. You get more indepth reviews of your work from the judges than from most others. I enter at least two weekly contests and several monthly. I have also tried the daily flash fiction. ~ dblameck (David)

Awesome! *Smile*

Inspiring newsletter, Spidey! I haven't seen the new My Little Pony cartoon, but will have a look.
Here's a link to a new Weekly Fantasy contest with some great prizes. Come check it out if you're a fantasy fan! *Peace* Nicole

Game on, Spidey. I'm a Rising Star, and a fairly new member. I've only entered a few contests. It's not a confidence issue; my mind blanks. Lightning struck and I entered
