A coming-of-age poem.
I’ve heard it said
that it “feels like dying”
but who here
has gone
and died lately?
Who can say
such odd a thing?

Neither can we
quite explain
our desires
The beat of our hearts
hits much like
the “tap-tap”ing
of a blind man’s cane

We wish the grown-ups
would grow up
and the kids
would stay innocent

But everyone
is stuck
in between
Not adult-like
as the elders
might hope
but too spent
to be children,
afraid and alone

So it seems
that we
still have
a bit yet
to grow

So it seems
that we
have
a bit less
to fake
