Poem/Song Actually written as a song. I do sing it to friends. About a soldier in Iraq
I can hear my darling calling, my name on this day
I can hear my baby crying, daddy please come home to stay
I can hear my mother praying, lord keep him safe today
But the captain gives the orders, in this land so far away

Me and my buddies clean our rifles, of the dust and the grime
We load`em and inspect`em, then do it one more time
We pass around the letters, to be mailed when it’s time
And try to fight the feeling, that this war is such a crime

From the homes of Haditha, to the cells of Abu Ghraib
We all must be mindful, of mistakes that were made
For the people here they hate us, and wish we’d go away
But the president says sorry, we’ve come here to stay

Now the humvee was rolling, along the road so slow
It was late in the evening, the sun was sinking low
When an IED exploded, I tried to turn my face
But the shrap…nel was faster, and I… lost that race

I can hear my darling my name on this day
