I used to be the perfect rose, the cream of the crop
A Rose Without Red

I used to be the perfect rose, the cream of the crop
With such an intense beauty, I could make hearts drop
I was the car that everyone wanted to have one day
I was the rainbow to a sky that was grey
With eyes that could set the Atlantic in flames
And a mustang spirit, too wild to tame
I was a true beauty in everyone’s eyes
And just like a rose, that beauty dies
One day his eyes just grew blank with a stare
He’d look right at me as if I weren’t there
I used to be the girl that made his heart dance
The girl of his dreams, The girl out of chance
His eyes would sparkle when I walked in his view
But now seeing right through me is all he could do
It hurts to know that I’m the rose that lost its red
That now I am just a body who lies with him in bed
In a click of a clock, and a minute too soon
I became his dirt, instead of his moon
What in me died? what has gone bad ?
I used to be the only beauty he had
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder
But what if those eyes are your only shoulder
What he believes in his soul and in his heart
Is the only reason that I don’t fall apart
If he only knew that all he says means the world
That I take comfort in being his beautiful girl
If only he knew that how he sees me is everything
And that without a view of a rose, I am nothing
If only he knew that his words make me breath
And the ice in his tone makes my heart bleed
If only he knew that the more he hurts me with such bitter cold
Is forcing my hands to slip, making it harder to hold
If only he knew that one day I’ll slip
And if he keeps on this way, I’ll rip
Well my heart will be ripped square in two
If I continue being a dead rose to you . . .
