A woman is forced to break her Vows to save herself from her Husband.
Her husband's hand slaps her face
The blood on her lips she can taste,
His hurtful words make their stain
This woman is living a life of pain.

Her family tell her to leave while she still can;
She will not forsake her love for this man
She made a vow to love him through the good and the bad
She promised to do this whether it made her happy or sad.

As she stares in the mirror at her battered face
She knows she has to leave, no time to waste,
Can she summon the courage to depart?
She has nothing to lose he has already broken her heart.

She prays she is making the right move
To herself she has nothing to prove,
She is doing this for herself, for her own sake
This man is no hero, her spirit he could not break.

He leaves for work and she gathers her things
She swallows hard to keep the butterflies within,
She walks out the door never to return
How he will react is no longer her concern.

As she walks away from her home and the sadness within;
She smiles as she thinks of the new life she will begin
She is not afraid of being alone
She is taking her life back as her own.

This man had no right to put her through such hell
Years later she wonders if he realises this from within his cell.
A part of her will always love him, even now,
After all she made a promise, a sacred vow.

She often wonders why it all went so bad
Thinking of it all still makes her sad,
She knows that for what he did he will go to hell
After all he made a promise, a vow to her and God as well.
