Memories of a tainted friendship
Remember back to the days
When life was made much simpler:
Hearts were full and harsher,
Words weren’t always said.

Woe is me to remember
How life used to catch fire.
Burn down truths with ire,
Never catching liars jest.

Long ago we were false,
Using life to fly away,
Missing and falling steeply in the fray,
Wasting each breath.

Now we look down,
Afraid to see the others eye.
No glance as we walk by,
Faking hatred that’s only real.

Mistrust and abandoned words:
Sturdily built pyramids.
Wishing only to be rid,
Erode the past with the wind.

Memory plays a devils hand.
Gut still feels the worry and doubt,
Heart still tries to fade out,
Images I can’t let win.

Only in the safety of a dream
Can such sweet moments,
Full of past lies and compliments,
Come to me.
