Poetry - The Beast
You see beauty when you look at my face, not the angry beast that lies beneath

I am what you need, but you really don't know what I am

You need love, compassion and understanding - yet I am hate, scorn and judgement

I live this lie because the small piece of humanity within me hates being alone so
I wear masks for you

When I look in the mirror the beast stares back at me full of self loathing and hate

How can you love me

I must hide myself from you because if you knew what I truly am you would shun me instead of caress me

You would not be able to stomach the site of me

So, I live your lie - I am your perfect soul mate even though I have no soul

You are happy

I am empty

You live

I die inside

I wish your love could set me free, but the chains in me are embedded too deep

The Beast lives and it will eventually kill your love because it knows it is unworthy of love - just as I am
