A poem written originally for a class.
Lying in my bed at night
Staring at the ceiling,
I noticed a crack on the wall
Along it the pain was peeling.
The moonlight creased over it
Turning the wall onyx and pearl.
Then I found myself in limbo
Surrounded by a maze of a mural.
The painting depicted a person
Down in his bed and asleep.
Then demons came to wake him
And torment him away from sleep.
They poked and pinched and prodded
The old man where he lay,
But could not wake his sleeping bulk
Until the very next day.
And as the smallest strip of sunshine
Shone on the old man's eyes,
The demons' skin began to burn
And they began to die.
And as I watched
I was pulled into the scene,
And was awoken
From my lucid dream.
Next time I go staring
At my ceiling late at night,
I will not stay up too late
Lest I see such fright.
