The change in God's pocket.
I am always a step ahead of you
From winter to spring and summer to autumn
The seasons are just a part of the few
Of the change in my pocket’s bottom

I pull out a quarter to pay for your years
A couple of dimes for your new pet
A penny or two for your father’s career
And a shiny nickel for your duet

My quarters may buy unhappy things
The dimes may start a war
A penny may see painful scenes
And nickels close the door

My pocket is full of the clanging kind
I save it to share with the rest
For growth of body, spirit, and mind
Believe me when I say I know best

That is what lies in my pocket
And to make the world as right as rain
I’ll take the bad and sad and lock it
So only good can come of change
