HOW I GOT MY NAME



I am Nellie's Ellie

My mother's name was Nellie.

I am Ellie.



I was my mother's first  girl.

She had seven boys first.

I did not act much like a girl.



She had six girls  later.

They wire girly.

But she was very proud of me,

because I was the first.



Family and friends called me Nellies Ellie.

I would throw my shoulders back in pride,

And hold one finger in the air.



I proudly announced, "That is me.

I am Momma's First Girl

and I am the best.'".
