“One.”

The word sends shivers down her spine. Her back straightens.

“Two.”

Her heart-rate quickens as she scans her surroundings. Her head moves back and forth in a torrid frenzy.

“Three.”

She takes off from the spot her feet seemed glued to. She cannot believe she wasted so much time already.

“Four.”

She opens the door to the closet, quickly discarding the notion as too obvious.

“Five.”

She dives to the bed, ready to roll underneath when she is shooed away by its current occupant.

“Six.”

She darts up the stairs, two at a time, frantic to get out of sight.

“Seven.”

She spots the bathtub. Her body quickly changes direction as she runs towards it.

“Eight.”

Quietly she steps into the tub, slowly drawing the shower curtain closed in front of her.

“Nine.”

She sits, covering her mouth with her hands in an attempt to stifle her breathless exhales.

“Ten.”

She stops breathing all together, her eyes bolting open as her heart pounds in her chest.

“Ready or not, here I come!”

She waits to be found.
