Kids need to play outside more…
Once upon a sunny day
I sent the kids outside to play
They’d been inside for way too long—
Too much screen time’s just plain wrong!

I sent them out and out they went
To laugh and play, to build a tent!
Run and jump, play games, make friends
Argue, fight, then make amends—-

And so they gathered up their crew:
My boys and their friends, Drake and Drew;
They played in dirt, then got the hose
They sprayed each other while in their clothes;

But water and dirt make mud, you know;
Soon they were covered from head to toe!
They made a mud ball, then two, then three
Had a mud fight with a frenzy!!

An epic battle was to be had!
They laughed and played and I was glad—
Until alas mishap did strike:
A mud ball hit a small young tyke!!

Oh, the tears this child cried!
Oh the screams—I thought he’d died!
Yet little harm had befallen him,
But for boys and crew, oh, ice was thin!

They wanted to hide and run away
(I guess that was it for outside play!)
But they had been caught dead in the act
I had no choice but to react!

They had to show him some remorse
(Kid was still screaming, almost hoarse!)
So to the boy they feigned sorrow
And swore to invite him back tomorrow—

And so with that, they became friends
Swore allegiance to the end;
That is the fun of being outside:
Outdoors is where adventure lies.
