A poem inspired by an offhand comment made by my wife several years ago.
urban boy
not so coy
falls in love
heart of a dove
leaves his home
with her to come
new place to start
a life apart
miles away
places to stay
friends to make
so much at stake
hours must go
to earn his dough
a family new
bad choices eschew
tries to live right
but can’t see the light
stretches his cash
gone in a flash
a home wants to buy
but though he will try
tisn’t meant
always to rent
struggles each day
to find a way
to live his dream
it doesn’t seem
supposable
heart is full
of pain and hurt
soon in the dirt
tried his best
earned his rest.
