An emotional landscape that is called life
The red roses and the packages
Dressed in gold leaf hide the damages
Spot the creator as he balances
Life's canvas of hidden challenges

Go to bed in the morning air
Wake refreshed in sweet despair
See my body lying dead there
In the depths of a demon's tender care
See the black wings flutter nearer

There were riots in the neighborhood
Just when things were getting good
All the things I've done and seen
Still I don't know what life means

All the people in my life
Living inside of my brain
Are united by the love
Are united by the pain

All the things that I've done and I've seen
Still I don't know what it means
Yet I can hear their tortured screams
They are human, real human beings

Everywhere I go I can see
That everyone is just like me
Floating in a fog of dreams
Some broken human beings

Somewhere along the way
I forgot to let the sunlight play
In my lap so I could dance
Now I want another chance
To be human, a real human being
