a child's prayer to her mother
Mommy, Mommy, can you hear me
I'm still here waiting for you to notice
Longing for you to see the good girl
You always wanted me to be

Mommy, Mommy, can you see me
Look at what I can do that no one else can
My differences are not a slap in your face
It's just me trying to make you proud

Mommy, Mommy, I'm all grown up now
And your love I still live without
It's just one of those things I have learned
That I can't do anything about

Mommy, Mommy, in your shadow I no longer live
Instead I now realize acceptance you cannot give
Now, I'm in between dances, sitting this one out
Until your rejection fades and the sting subsides
