The cat with an extra life
My mom had a favorite cat and his name was Joxcer. He was a Siamese who was the most doglike cat that I have ever known. He was always happy to see us even if we had just left the room. He always wanted to touch you either by rubbing against you as you walked, sitting on your lap, or just sitting next to you and leaning against you as you did whatever. He always made you feel better and would reward your pets with purring.

One day, I got home from school and my mom was crying. She told me how she came home and found him already frozen in rigor mortis on the floor. I picked up the towel with his body in it and it seemed far too light to be the cat I remembered from the night before. My mom asked me to dig his grave and bury him since she needed to get dinner started and I had done the honors on family pets in the past.

After using the shovel and post-hole digger to get down far enough, I picked up Joxcer, held him in my arms, and stroked him the way he liked as I thought about how much I would miss him. I thanked him wherever he was and hoped he would be as happy there as he made us. Not wanting to but knowing that it had to be done, I gave him one last hug and was about to put him back in the towel and then put them both in the grave when he started purring. I changed my grip on him as he seemed to melt back into life and movement. He seemed to weigh more than he did a moment before and was weak, but not at all dead.

I left everything as it was and walked back to the house, getting head nuzzles and hugs for Joxcer I opened the door and found my mom was still where I had left her. I walked up to her and she told me she didn't want to talk right then, but thanked me for dealing with the body. held up the towel that was supposed to have been buried with the cat and my mom asked why I had brought that back, it was supposed to be with Joxcer. I turned so that she could see into the towel and showed her the animated cat purring away. She took him and hugged him with tears in her eyes. She asked what happened and I told her everything I have written here. Joxcer lived for another couple of years and continued to make us happy in those extra years. My mom is a nurse and had listened to his heart without hearing any beats or breaths.

Thank you again Joxcer, wherever you are, I hope you are as happy now as you made us when you where here.
