Plan Ahead
We're winding up the month of horror and scariness. I hope all of you have enjoyed hosting or entering all the fun contests and activities for this genre. These always bring out fun characters in stories and crazy funny contests.
November is right around the corner! Lots of our members will be attempting the NaNoWriMo challenge and I hope those of you not pounding the keys take a little time to run around our community and encourage our writers to keep plugging away. For those of you entering the challenge, good luck!
November is also the time to start thinking about the winter/holiday season on the horizon. If you're going to host something, start setting it up now and recruit some help. The season gets busy and I've seen a lot of hosts get a little stressed out when time runs short. Those of you planning to enter some contests, think about story ideas now! It's never too soon to create some memorable characters or storylines. If you're taking a little twist on the holiday, do your research now so you're ready when the prompt is posted.
Don't forget life tends to throw a monkey wrench in the time we plan to use writing. Being prepared will help with reducing stress. And don't overextend yourself! You can always add projects if you find yourself with extra time. Or volunteer to help someone. And of course, take time to review contests and activities that you look over.
Most of all, take the time to give to others. These days, a kind word goes a long way.

This month's question: Do you have plans in place for the holiday contest/activities? Send in your answer below! Editors love feedback!
Last month's question: Do you follow a routine for writing entries?
dogpack saving 4premium : I do not follow a routine for entering contests. When I find something I am interested in or is a challenge and have time to invest, I enter. Usually keeping track isn't problematic because I don't enter a lot of contests each month. I look for ways to make my first draft better. Before entering my submission, I check it and when I'm satisfied it is my best work, I check the rules and then submit my entry.
Write_Mikey_Write! : If you call waiting until almost the last possible second a routine, then - yes. In reference to your Newsletter, I've got a folder with a number of Almost-Dones in it, victims of that digital clock near the bottom of the left side Navigation bar. Sometimes, the story / poem almost writes itself; mostly, though, it's a fair bit of work to get a reasonably cohesive tale onto the screen.
Scifiwizard Retired : For me, writing is an escape from the real world. I dive into a story to get away from the madness. When I feel the need to get away from the world, I write.
bryanmchunter: Not really.
Beholden : Yes, I write every day. More some days than others but always something.
And yes, I have a routine. It includes lots of what I call "legitimate breaks" (a favourite TV program on the Roku, coffee, soda, food, meditation upon the throne, stuff like that) taken when I feel like it. For a while I was convinced I could only write in the morning. Now I find myself writing later and later into the afternoon and evening. One day I'll meet myself going the other way, I'm sure.
keyisfake : First the story is building in my mind. So to sharpen it I read, watch movies then I can start writing down different scenes.
Lynn Nichole : I don't routinely write contest entries, but I do role-play, and that has me writing several paragraphs at least every two days on average. I think about writing every day, but don't always make it to turn the thought into an action.
Xiea : Haven't written in a while and I'm hating it. But at the same time, can't seem to break out of it.
Joy : Xiea If writing isn't coming to you on its own, it is a very good idea to go after it such as getting in a group, maybe one of the blogging groups. As a general idea, groups encourage writers. Even if you answer the prompts with three-sentence entries, that will form a habit. People usually write regularly once writing becomes a habit.
TheBusmanPoet : No, I'm all jumbled about. I can enter them on a weekly basis or don't for months.
Thanks to everyone for your fantastic replies, they are much appreciated! Leger~
