About This Newsletter

The contests and activities on this site are constantly changing! Almost every day there is something new and exciting to view and participate in. The ideas are endless. Some succeed, some manage to get along, while others, unfortunately, are left behind and forgotten. My goal as your Contest & Activity newsletter editor is to provide each of you with the tools it takes to create a great success.

Recipe: Raffle

Below is a "recipe" for making an elimination contest. Feel free to get creative with the recipe. Some of the best things come from expirementing with recipes. We wouldn't have chocolate chip cookies if someone hadn't decided to expirement with putting chocolate into sugar cookies, now would we?

Ingredients:
          Message Forum
          Charity/Cause
          Minimum Prize pot
          Static item to list tickets

Preparation Instructions:
First and foremost, a raffle is a fundraiser. Every raffle ticket purchased brings in a certain amount of GPs. It is up to you to decide who the gift points will go to. The decision of who they'll go to will influence the success of your raffle (members are more willing to purchase tickets to aid RAOK than to purchase tickets to fund an individual's upgrade). Most members also decide to add a portion of the raffle ticket's price to the prize pot.
Set up the message forum with the following information: where all gift points raised will go at the end of the raffle, the last day to purchase tickets, the price of raffle tickets, any limits on number of tickets per person, and total prize pot. Advertise your raffle on the activities page and occasionally in scroll and forums. Keep track of any donations and the number of raffle tickets purchased. Whenever a member purchases a raffle ticket, record their username and the number of their ticket in the static item (ex: #41-44 username). When the raffle is over, use a random generator to decide the winner. The StoryMaster Author Icon has provided virtual dice located in the "Site Tools" drop down menu. Announce the winners as soon as possible and disperse the gift points immediately!

Cooking Time:
2-4 weeks. Any shorter and you will not generate enough interest and thus have very few tickets purchased. Any longer and members might choose not to purchase tickets due to the wait for any reward.

Reccomendations:
*Bullet* Update the prize pot and number of tickets purchased frequently. The higher your prize pot, the more interested members will be in purchasing a ticket.
*Bullet* Be online at the exact same time your raffle ends. Check for any last minute purchases. As soon as everything is cleared, roll the dice and choose your winner immediately. Once the winner is chosen, send the gift points out right away.
*Bullet* If you do want to raise a few funds for yourself by doing a raffle, but want the interest of a charity raffle try a 40-40-20 split. 40% goes to a charity of your choice, 40% goes to you, and 20% goes to the pot, or a similar split.
