NaNo or Non-NaNo
I'm sure many of you have heard about NaNoWriMo on our site and on writing forums across the internet. If you haven't, here's a link to get started: https://nanowrimo.org/
Feel free to get started in our community: "NaNoWriMo Write-A-Thon" [ASR] You can even track your word count right on your portfolio! You'll see the counter appear in the left column, right before the NaNo contest starts.
It's a fun activity! Even if you're not a winner, it will get you started thinking about plots and characters. If some of those don't make it to the final story, save them!
Let's page ahead and take a look at all the contests and activities that come up during the holiday season. If you're like me, over-tasked and always short on time, but love to participate - take a look at those characters you pruned and gather them up from the cutting floor. Could you use one in a holiday setting? Or perhaps one of your characters only had a bit part, now you could write their story during the holiday contests and give them a voice.
Start watching the "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com" and "Activities @ Writing.Com" pages for the start of the season contests. There are some really fun things to do on our site in the next couple of months. Also, watch the Messenger IM console, there are now spooky bots and soon there will be frosty bots that give gift points for solving the puzzles. Plus it's a fun way to communicate with fellow members.
In all, try to find time to log in during the next couple of months. The fun is second only to the WDC birthday celebrations.
This month's question: How do you manage your writing time during NaNoWriMo and the busy holidays? Send in your answer below! Editors love feedback!

Choose ONE of the images shown and craft a poem or short story (1,000 words maximum) inspired by the image.
A Horror Flash Fiction must be more than 500 words, but fewer than 1,000 words in length.
I would like you to pen a non-fictional poem and/or a short story about someone important in your life that has passed on. Remember, this is a celebration of their life, which means the main focus of your entry must be how their life affected you in a positive way, rather than focusing on the sadness from the loss.
Use the picture prompt to create an engaging opening for a story. It should hook me into wanting to read the rest of the story. Your opening line(s) may be one or two sentences.
As a survivor in this nightmare, your only goal is to stay alive and outlast the relentless hordes of undead. Gather your wits and use your resources wisely to survive. In this game, every decision could be a matter of life or death.
