About This Newsletter

What is a mystery? It's like a puzzle. A reader has to discover the secret or riddle in order to solve it and find out who the criminal or enemy is. Clues are imperative, but should be puzzling. Make a reader have to think by using a strong plot that paints a picture in the reader's mind, yet leaves them guessing.*Smile*

*Star* What is your idea of a good mystery? Is it a cozy mystery with less action, a hard-boiled detective mystery, an amateur detective mystery, or one not mentioned here? *Star*

Letter from the editor

I have came across some excellent mystery and mystery combinations written by authors here at Writing.com. *Delight* Some are cozy detective stories, while others were much more in depth. In previous newsletters, I have mentioned how imperative it is to detail the characters and settings in a way that holds a readers interest from beginning to end, and to keep the plot puzzling. Coming across some of these when reviewing authors on Writing.com, I was impressed. I commend them for their hard work, research, definition of characters and surroundings, and so forth. This is not an easy task, but the finished product usually rewarding. This proves the theory that anyone can write a good mystery if they let their Muse run its course. *Wink*

**If you have a good mystery you would like read, post it here or email me. I just love a good mystery! *Delight* **

Thank you! *Smile*

I hadn't thought of it like that, but you're right; a lot of films involve a puzzle to be solved, whether or not it's the main theme. Thanks.
