We find dragons in the mythologies and folklore of numerous countries and cultures across the Earth. The normal picture of a dragon is a huge fire breath reptile with a scaly hide, snake’s tail and the claws of a lion, but not all dragons have wings. In addition, some dragons are evil and others are good.
According to the website Here there be Dragons, http://www.draconian.com/home/frameset.htm, there are at least fourteen different species of dragons.
Dragons with wing
Western Dragons some can change their color and other shape.
Faerie Dragons are very small and have butterfly wings.
Wyverns are dragons that have two legs.
Hydras are dragons with several heads and necks; some hydras have wings.
Pernese Dragons do not have scales.
Amphipteres do not have legs
Ouroboros like to hold their tails in their mouths.
Amphisbaenas have heads at both ends of their bodies (neck and tail).
Dragons without wings
Eastern Dragons, with adult winged Imperial Dragons being the exception, have three, four, or five toes depending on their country of origin.
Some Hydras do not have wings.
Drake Dragons breathe either flames or hail and snow.
Wyrms do not have legs.
Lindworms or Lindorms have two short legs.
Sea Serpents can live in both salt and fresh water.
Nagas (pseudo-dragons) have human heads.
Dragons on Earth
Draco is a lizard genus.
Water dragons are types of lizards.
Komodo dragons weigh 150 lbs. are 10 ft. long.
Dragonflies are insects.
Snapdragons are flowers.
