Letter from the editor

December twenty-ten. Wow! Seems like just yesterday I was writing my "Dear Me" letter and looking forward to a year full of promise. Now I'm looking back and wondering where the heck all the time went.

Each New Year brings with it a world of possibility. Excited about what we may be able to accomplish in the coming months, we steel ourselves for the next grand adventure, our dreams fueled by renewed vim and vigor. But as the months go by the enthusiasm that fills our tanks peters out and we find ourselves sputtering on the side of the road, unsure of what to do next. Lost and alone, we begin to lose hope and wonder if we'll ever reach our destination.

Don't get discouraged! Reach out to passersby. Most people are willing to help, and sometimes a kind word is all you need to slap that sucker into overdrive and speed off into the sunset. Sure, it may be a bumpy ride, and there are no guarantees of success, but the success is in the journey itself. Are you a better person because of it? Have you grown? Did you learn anything along the way? If you answered yes to even one of these questions, it was well worth your while.

FDR once said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." No truer words were ever spoken. When you're staring off into the horizon, the distance alone can seem overwhelming, and the mere idea of traversing it freezes you in your tracks ... but even the longest journeys are begun with a single step. Don't let fear rule your life. If you want to achieve something, do your damnedest to achieve it! The only person who can make it happen is you. Work your butt off for it and surround yourself with people who truly love you and have your best interests at heart. Weed out everyone else; they will only drag you down.

Now put on your seatbelts and start your engines. Let's do this!
