There was a day, last week or nearly a decade ago, that you typed "writing" into your search engine. You wanted to show off some of your poems, short stories, or maybe even get feedback for a whole novel. You found Writing.com.
On this site you found all that you had searched for: Portfolio space, helpful reviewers, encouraging groups, style and grammar lessons from peers. But nothing had prepared you for the amazing bounty of: Contests & Activities |

In & Out
The In & Out. It challenges you to communicate your message in 255 characters or fewer. Although the small amount of allowed characters may appear to be limiting, the In & Out is one of the most versatile items around.
Just recently, "4th Annual Quill Awards Ceremony: Live" was filling with new messages by the minute as a large group of WdC members held the Quill awards ceremony. The "Activities @ Writing.Com" and "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com" pages and the different pages to request reviews are In & Outs.
In & Outs can be used as message boards for groups, as Yellow Pages, as mini contests, as word games, as run-on stories, the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. So, as you may have realized, I want to give the In & Out a special place in this March Contests & Activities Newsletter.
The beauty of the In & Out is that it is an interactive item similar to the Message Forum item, but it is available with a free membership, therefore giving all members of Writing.Com a chance to interact with others in real time in a public setting. Setting up an In & Out is as starts out as simple as creating any item with finding a title, an intro line, and giving a short explanation what the In & Out is about.
Then, comes the tricky part. The In & Out gives a host of different configurations to the creator to choose from. Such simple and practical thoughts if the posts should be new at the top or new at the bottom, or if WritingML is allowed within the 255 character text. Once you have worked your way through the limitations of your In & Out, you get a second text box to explain and reinforce some of the rules of your In & Out.

I highly recommend taking a look at this. Your mind will work overtime to "get" this, and I hope to see many additions. What a fun idea!
So whether you're that Old Lady from Aachen or that Young Man from Zurich or indeed anyone from anywhere in between, if you're addicted to Limericks, just add your line whenever!

Everyone has their own personal thoughts, habits, and experiences that aid in their writing. And each person's know-how is unique.
