It Takes a Village
How many times have you heard that phrase "This is my baby." When people really refer to an inanimate object? Usually, the thing talked about will be a brainchild. Something that requires a lot of work, love, time, and sometimes funds - money in the offline world, gift points here on WdC.
While it takes only one creative person to have such a brainchild, it turns out that many times, it is to the best interest of all involved to get help in raising that brainchild.
On WdC, each item can only "live" in one portfolio. The owner of the portfolio is the owner of the contest or activity. But many members can work together to make the activity a success. The success of a contest is measured in the amount of submissions it receives and in the pace at which each round gets judged. The success of an activity is measured in the reception within the community and how many members use the activity or take part in it.
Managing or administering any one item on WdC that is not a simple static item takes a lot of time and energy. There are several contests and activities that have been around for years and are run by one member alone. Some of them just never stop and faithfully keep up their brainchild from month to month or whichever time frame they chose to cycle their contest/activity through. Similar to all things we grow and care for, thriving contests that stay around for a long time are in the fortunate position to have a number of people care for it.
Many of the longest lasting and most successful activities around the site are run and kept up by a team of dedicated members who come together to ensure the smooth operation. Many review groups have a broad leadership group so that the daily job of keeping up with forums doesn't fall on the same person from day to day.
This week's editorial picks feature contests that give you a chance to write for a wide variety of tastes within the same context. Entries submitted as a response to my September NL "Product Reviews." are listed first.

The Daily Slice contest is ran by a team of Horror Inc. members and is based off the Writer's Cramp contest. It is a strictly horror version of the daily prompt contest. Submitted by Lilithmoon☽

You're welcome! It's such a great part of WdC that is sorely underused. I hope it will stir up some action in the product reviews and in the forum. |
