Holidays
Most of us are in the midst of the Holiday season! There are a plethora of holidays celebrated all over the world throughout this season and the rest of the year. For many, the holidays are a time of relaxation and celebration. They can also be a great time to host or participate in a contest or activity and can be a great time for inspiration!
Holiday Parties
Holiday parties can be great times to get inspiration for writing. Take in the different "characters" or personalities around you while you mingle at parties and gatherings. Listen for phrases that might make great dialogue. I think a lot of writers tend to be introverts, and social gatherings can be great places to get a feel for others, for current dialogue and slang. Listen to the current event topics to find out what's happening in the world at the moment! This can be inspiration for your own writing or for what might make a popular contest/activity theme!
Music/Songs
Have you ever really listened closely to the lyrics of the holiday songs we sing? Some of them tell interesting stories (and I find a lot of them to be sad for some reason). They can help inspire creativity, too! Most people are familiar with the holiday songs that get played everywhere we go. Try a contest focused on that one mysterious line that people tend to overlook!
Shopping
Is there any better time to people-watch than when they shops and malls are busy with shoppers at holiday times? I know they say shopping can bring out the worst in people, but watch out for the kindnesses, too! I know they're there!
Food
Did you ever notice that a central part of a culture is its cuisine? A reader can infer a lot of information by what meals or foods you include in a piece of writing! Everyone has to eat, and most have their favorite foods. It's definitely something that connects the human experience, don't you think? Use tastes and smells (good or bad!) to inspire!
Whatever you do this holiday season, and throughout the year, I wish you the best and hope you find creativity and inspiration in all that you do! Keep on Writing!!
